Three Indonesian representatives have undergone the first round of the 2024 German Open which took place at the Westenergie Sporthalle, Mulheim, Germany, Wednesday (28/2/2024).
However, only two Red and White representatives advanced to the second round of the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.
Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto / Lisa Ayu Kusumawati became the first Indonesian representatives to win a place in the second round.
The seventh seed beat Adam Hall/Julie Macpherson (Scotland) in two straight games. This result confirmed Rehan/Lisa’s lead over Hall/Machperson to 3-0.
“Thank God we were able to win this opening round match. However, in terms of our game, we were still a bit unsatisfied, especially in the first game. It was proven that the numbers were tight,” said Rehan in the official PBSI broadcast.
“I am definitely happy with this victory. Moreover, I achieved this victory while I was celebrating my birthday which falls today.”
“Of course here I want to try to get the best birthday gift. I myself definitely want to win the Geman Open. I just want to focus on playing optimally first and step by step.”
Rinov Rivaldy / Pitha Haningtyas Mentari achieved a quick victory when they faced the host representatives, David Eckerlin / Amelie Lehmann in 21 minutes.
Rinov/Pitha immediately took a 3-0 lead. Eckerlin/Lehmann then drew closer to 1-3.
Rinov/Pitha opened the gap 4-2. They maintained this advantage until the position was 11-2.
