The history of the Internet began in 1969, how did it start?

Almost every day we are always connected to the internet . Whether for study needs, work or just entertainment. However, do you know when the internet started?

In the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), the internet is an electronic communications network that connects organized computer networks and computer facilities throughout the world via telephone or satellite.

According to a report from the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo), internet users in Indonesia currently reach 63 million people.

Of this figure, 95 percent use the internet to access social networks.

Internet History

Quoting the book Smart Book Mastering the Internet by Darma, et al, it is explained that the history of the internet or the existence of the internet began with a series of centers created by ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency) in 1969.

This American research agency has made a major contribution to world technological development.

The creation of the internet began with the reason that researchers could not work because they were not in the same location.

Finally, ARPA decided to create a computer network called ARPANET in 1969. Thanks to ARPANET, researchers were able to collect data via servers and communicate with each other.

At that time, ARPANET took the form of telephone lines or cables and was only used by certain groups.

To speed up the data transmission process, ARPANET invited NOVEL to collaborate to create data that could be broken down into smaller packages via packet switching technology.

Internet Development

Because the benefits felt were quite large from networking as a result of ARPANET and NOVEL, the researchers finally decided to develop this technology.

After that, networking technology was used on a number of computers with a wider range of coverage.

The first networking feature introduced was email in 1972. Not satisfied with the convenience obtained from email, researchers continued to develop the central chain protocol from NCP to TCP/IP.

Since then the internet began to soar and in 1989, ARPANET already had 100,000 servers connected to each other.

Because ARPANET could only be run by people who understood programming languages, finally the Hypertext Transfer Protocol or what we know today as HTTP was created.

The existence of HTTP, which was designed by Tim Berners-Lee, means that more people can access the internet.

HTTP itself has a function as an address used to access the internet. HTTP makes it easier for users to find what they want to access.

The term for the address on each computer is the IP Address, where each person has their own address.

How Does the Internet Work?

If all this time we have only used the internet easily, it turns out that the internet has complicated things behind it where several systems are interconnected so that they can make connections.

These important systems make the internet work. Below are the important things in an internet working system:

1. Client Server

To connect to the internet, a server is needed. A server is a computer that sends data to and from the internet. The computer that we can use is called a client or one that requests information from the ISP with the function of a server.

2. Satellites and Transmitting Antennas

The new server can be connected via satellite or transmitting antenna. With these two systems, the data transmission process can run and be disseminated throughout the country.

3. Modems and Routers

A computer can connect to the internet via a modem. However, if you want to connect the internet to many computers, you can first connect the modem to the router.

4. Protocol

The computer language used to communicate by the server and client is called a protocol. We will find the term HTTP called the address or protocol.

To access a website and get information, we will enter the HTTP and address of the website to be accessed.

5. IP

IP is a numeric address that functions to send computer information packets. IP Address provides information about where the packet came from and where the packet will be sent.

6. Internet Browser

Of course, we often open the internet browser first when we want to access the internet. These internet browsers include Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox, and others.

So, that’s the history and development of the internet , which started in 1969.
